Hi Everyone,

I was browsing 7digital.com when I found Songbird available for download. I didn't think it was supposed to be released yet...?
Well, anyways, here is the link. :)

Hi Cathleen,

You are quite right, we believed the single was due to be released for National Music Week which is 16-20 October. Maybe 7digital don't know that! [image]

So, did you download it? If so, what do you think of it?

Hi Roger,

No, I didn't download it. I figured I would just wait for the whole album. :)

Hi Cathleen, thanks for the "heads-up" on this - I haven't checked 7digital.com for a few days (they are usually first to announce new UK digital tracks). Well you may be patient but I'm not and as I have an acoount with them, I downloaded it!

It says that this is the Album version of Songbird and it's identical to the version you could hear on recordoftheday.com a couple of weeks ago - but it's now been removed from the unregistered part of that website.

So, it now looks like the Songbird single may be a different mix and it will be interesting to see what they have done to it when it's released. However, i-Tunes have it listed (woth the same release date, 2nd October) as a single so who knows? :-/

In view of what 7 Digital said, I amended the thread title slightly but now i-Tunes has spoken, I've changed it back again ! ???

Cheers, Dave

Hello everybody! ;)

According to a press release from Universal Classics and Jazz, published yesterday in CD Times, All Angels' 'Songbird' CD single is now due for release on Monday 6th November 2006. The full press release can be read HERE.

Best Wishes,

I have just "filed" my copy of All Angels single (Songbird and Flower Duet) in Windows Media Player. The CD was not recognised so I clicked on Find Album Info from MSN.

The tracks are now classified under the genre of rock.

I think that a hasty edit to easy listening might be more appropriate until MSN and AMG come up with a better description!

Hi Drew,

Rock may simply be a default genre, perhaps the most common one. I'd be surprised if any of these online music databases have Songbird, or the album, classified correctly before the final release date has passed . Songbird releasing as a digital track (its present status) may not be sufficient to trigger their systems into action.

I-Tunes have done a little better with the digital track, classifying it as "Vocal" which they seem to think is a musical genre. Oh dear.

I'm worried because I've checked HMV, Amazon, and Play.com and none of them mention Songbird...only the album and Angels in December. Is it download only?

I hope I can get it tomorrow

Hello Louis and everybody! ;)

I looked in HMV and Virgin Megastore today, and I couldn't find any trace of the 'Songbird' CD single. Also it doesn't appear on HMV's search computer, so it looks as though it is only available on download. :(

Hi Richard,

I agree with your findings, it has not been released as a CD single, only as download. This is what Steve A said to me a couple of weeks ago, which surprised me at the time and I was surprised again last week, when one of the 'Angels' mentioned the release date of the single as 6th November.

But I think these decisions are made ultimately by the record company and they often "pull" CD singles at the last moment.

The Songbird CD was never listed even as a prelease by the online retailers however, "Angels" IS listed by HMV (already!) as a Christmas single and in view of this, and publicity surounding the betting situation for Christmas number 1, I have higher hopes that this one will actually happen!

Cheers, Dave

Hi Honeypotbears,

I think you may have been caught out by the small print (on this forum). This thread was begun just over a year ago and so the first mention of the single was made on 7th October 2006.

Welcome to the forum by the way. I hope you enjoy your time here. :)
