Hello everyone, We now know thanks to Cathleen that Songbird was released to download on Monday last week, 2nd October and it's certainly available now from 7 Digital and i-Tunes UK. The most important is i-Tunes as they account for about 80% of the downloads market! So I've had a good look around at i-Tunes UK store. Songbird is currently classified at i-Tunes as "Vocal" so it's in with people like Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Michael Buble and while it isn't in their main downloads top 100, it IS in their "Vocal" top 100! Yesterday Songbird was no. 94 and today, it is at no. 91 Considering the extremely low-key and unannounced release last week I think this is brilliant news - I assume that a one or two radio stations may have started playing it... as well of Classic FM TV, of course (which has quite a small audience). I suspect that if it does well as a digital single and also in this month's Schools competition (National Music Week) it may be released as a physical single too, next month. UCJ may have released it early as a digital download to test the water. Fingers crossed for Songbird in the charts... I-Tunes has been a great start! Cheers, Dave Edit: It's upto #59 today 9th October (I-Tunes Vocal)

I successfully downloaded "Songbird" from I-Tunes this morning. Since then I am having problems with the AAI homepage. Dave what has Apple done to me?
PS. Where do you find their 100 charts?

Hi Drew, Fortunately I haven't had any problems with downloading from I-Tunes because I only use them to look around; I've never downloaded anything from them so I don't know what it might have done to your browser, sorry. I don't download from any online store that requires me to install proprietary software (but I did install I-Tunes to find out what all the fuss was about!). I download from 7digital or Woolworths. There is a list of genres on the I-Tunes Music Store home page and if you click on one (Vocal in this case) it gives you a top ten chart, which you can click on to get a top 100. Not all genres have "singles" top 100s though. Songbird is up again today, to no. 35 in "Vocal" but it's not in the main chart. Cheers, Dave

Hi Drew!
I download music from iTunes every now and then. Never have any problems. I listened to the songbird song on iTunes but unfortuneately I couldn't download it because I don't have a British bank account. :-( In iTunes Germany you look for All Angels in vain. Hopefully that changes soon.

Thanks Dave, When I try to run the chart I get a "Method Not Implemented" message. Perhaps that is because I had uninstalled I-Tunes earlier this morning. I have to say that Apple produces one of the least user friendly web sites that I have ever seen (another job for you Simon). (A personal opinion and not necessarily shared by the management of AAI). I shall stear clear of downloads in future and wait for the vinyl (well, maybe the CD). It only cost me 0.79p to learn a lesson. I think that is good value. Angelic Radio is now back up and running. I enjoyed the download whilst it lasted. It is certainly different to the "live" performance with a very good level of input from Ian and a slightly different ending. How are they going to squeeze Ian's grand piano to the back of HMV?

Hi Drew! If you don't like to use iTunes anymore QuickTime also plays AAC-files. So you still can listen to your download if you haven't deleted the song as well together with iTunes. Only if you want to burn the downloaded song on an audio CD you need iTunes again. Which version of iTunes did you use? I use version 6 without problems. If you had a newer version maybe I better shouldn't update to iTunes 7? Thomas

Hi guys,
I have to admit, I refused to ugrade to the new version of I-Tunes and in view of what you said Drew, I certainly won't be upgrading now!
Meanwhile... Songbird is up again today and here is the latest singles/tracks chart in the 'Vocal' genre:
01 ) Celine Dion - Because You Loved Me (Theme from "Up Close and Personal") 02 ) KT Tunstall - Suddenly I See 03 ) Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On 04 ) Celine Dion - It's All Coming Back to Me Now 05 ) Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline 06 ) Michael Bublé - Home 07 ) Josh Groban - You Raise Me Up 08 ) Andrea Bocelli & Sarah Brightman - Time to Say Goodbye (Con te partiro) 09 ) Katie Melua - The Closest Thing to Crazy 10 ) Barbra Streisand - Woman In Love
11 ) Art Garfunkel - Bright Eyes 12 ) Frank Sinatra - My Way 13 ) Celine Dion - Think Twice 14 ) Andy Williams - The Impossible Dream (The Quest) 15 ) KT Tunstall - Other Side of the World 16 ) Frank Sinatra - Fly Me to the Moon 17 ) Andrea Bocelli - Time To Say Goodbye (Con Te Partiro) 18 ) Frank Sinatra - New York, New York 19 ) Dean Martin - How Do Ya Like Your Eggs In the Morning_ 20 ) Neil Diamond - Cracklin' Rosie 21 ) All Angels - Songbird
But we mustn't get too excited yet because we don't know if even the top songs in this "Vocal" genre will get into the main top 100. It IS progress though!

Songbird (the album track!!!) has just entered the iTunes MAIN download chart at no. 98! It has been no. 1 in the Vocal section for a couple of days and now, it's reached the main chart at iTunes (The album is up to no. 10 at iTunes and no. 13 at Amazon... it is currently above Katherine Jenkins' new album and Angelis' new album in those two charts).
