Caroline Quentin returns to BBC One in brand new six-part sitcom Life Of Riley, currently in production for transmission in the New Year.

Maddy's just got married again. And she's about to find out what happens when two families collide.

Suddenly she finds herself presiding over a modern-day extended family: children, step-children, step-siblings and half-siblings, with a few ex-partners and in-laws thrown in.

Maddy is like Roseanne but thinner, like Seinfeld but with dirtier trainers, like Victor Meldrew – but she does believe it.

In Life Of Riley, Maddy discovers that parenting has never been so difficult or complicated and she finds herself outwitted at every turn by people a quarter of her age.

Life Of Riley is written by Georgia Pritchett (Smack The Pony, Feel The Force), directed by Martin Dennis (Black Books, Men Behaving Badly) and produced by Catherine Bailey (Feel the Force, Spider).

The Executive Producer is Alan Tyler for BBC Scotland. Life Of Riley is a Catherine Bailey Limited production for BBC Scotland.

Thanks to Daisy's mum Alice for the information. She has informed me that Charlotte will be introduced in the first episode tomorrow, Thursday 8th January at 8pm on BBC1, and then has a larger part in episode five, which will air on the same channel on Thursday 5th February.

I will try to capture Charlotte's parts if I can.

Now I'm confused. Charlotte is not listed for Episode 1 (tonight) but is listed for Episode 2 (above).

Hi Drew,

There certainly seems to be a mix up somewhere, it's possible that the BBC have simply got the information mixed up on the website.

I know with a lot of productions, the first episode of a series, especially a brand new one, which this is, the first episode is often called the 'pilot' episode, with the second episode then becoming episode one, though I have always found that it tended to be more with American TV series than British, so I think that it is unlikely in this case.

We will soon see though.

I have just watched the first episode, no sign of Charlotte this week, which probably means that the BBC website is right and that she will be introduced in next weeks episode.

The series looks alright, but probably not the sort of thing that I would have watched otherwise. I'm looking forward to seeing Charlotte though.
