In some very exciting news, it has been confirmed that All Angels will be the youngest group ever to perform at the Classical Brits on May 3rd. In addition to performing on the night All Angels have also been nominated for two Classical Brit awards. The ceremony is televised on ITV 1, Sunday 6th May and then
repeated ITV 1, Sunday 13th May.

All Angels fight for top album title

A TEENAGE singing star from Suffolk will be fighting it out with Sting and Sir Paul McCartney for the Album of the Year title at this year's Classical Brit Awards, it was announced last night.

Laura Wright, from Framsden, near Debenham, is part of the hugely successful all-girl group All Angels, who won widespread acclaim with their eponymous first album last year.

They are one of 10 nominations for the classical Album of the Year award alongside the likes of Sting's Songs From The Labyrinth and Sir Paul's classical oratorio, Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart) - a recording in English and Latin with members of the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields.

Other contenders for Album of the Year include Welsh singers Katherine Jenkins and Bryn Terfel, mechanic-turned-tenor Alfie Boe and teen violinist Nicola Benedetti.

Benedetti, 19, leads the field with three nominations in total.

Besides Album of the Year, she is in the running for Young British Classical Performer and Instrumentalist of the Year.

She began playing the violin aged four and is a former BBC Young Musician of the Year.

This Morning presenter Fern Britton will host this year's ceremony from London's Royal Albert Hall on May 3.

The winner of the Album of the Year will be chosen by Classic FM listeners and Classic FM magazine readers.

This years Classical Brit Awards launch ceremony took place this evening in the Royal Garden Hotel in London during which the nominations for each award were announced.

The "Album of the Year" Award is the only one to be chosen by public vote. The official phone lines open on Tuesday 10th April. The numbers will be published here that morning. Laura's joy at award nomination

A SUFFOLK singing sensation has spoken of her delight at being nominated for an award at the Classical Brits.

At the glittering launch event on Monday evening, Framlingham College sixth-former Laura Wright heard that she and other members of classical girl group All Angels had been nominated for best album at next month's ceremony.

The award is voted for by the public and the phone lines open next Tuesday .

Laura said: “It is really exciting. There are such a great number of people up for this award. We don't know if we shall win, but just to be nominated is tremendous for us.”

They are up against nine other nominees including Sting's Songs From The Labyrinth, and Sir Paul McCartney's oratorio Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart).

Other contenders include Katherine Jenkins, Alfie Boe, Bryn Terfel and Nicola Benedetti.

As well as being nominated the girls - Laura, 16, and 17-year-olds Melanie Nakhla, Charlotte Ritchie, and Daisy Chute, will be the youngest girls to perform on the night.

Laura said: “I am not sure how it happened. We were just asked for and here we are.

“I have always dreamt of being a classical singer, but I never dreamed in a million years that we would sing at the Classical Brits.”
