Fram College celebrates successful year

TOP-achieving pupils at a Suffolk independent school were rewarded during a special event to mark the end of term.
Hundreds of students, parents and dignitaries packed into Framlingham College's sports hall on Saturday for its annual speech day to celebrate the achievements of the last 12 months.
Two internationally famous faces were among the guests at this year's ceremony.
Laura Wright, a day pupil at the college's sixth form and a member of Brit-nominated classical singing group All Angels, attended the event with her parents to collect a musical performance prize.
Meanwhile, Marks and Spencer chief executive Stuart Rose, the man credited with reviving the retail giant, was a special guest tasked with handing out the prizes.
Laura, who had to dash off early from the ceremony to make a concert appearance with her fellow group members in Bristol on Saturday night, said receiving the award meant as much, if not more, than her Brit nomination this year.
“I'm really excited. It's something I have worked hard for. I'm honoured to receive it,” said the 17-year-old.
“It's just as important, if not more important (than the Brit nomination). There are people in school you spend five years of your life with. You know them so well. To get a prize is so important.”
In her speech, headteacher Gwen Randall praised Laura's achievements over the year and said it was remarkable how she had been able to stay so grounded.
“Laura, you have been pulled in all sorts of directions this year. Throughout it all, you have remained Laura Wright, Moreau House, striving to achieve excellence not only in your chosen career where you have soared to great heights already but also in your work in school, in your sport, in your relationships with your friends, your brothers, your parents.”
She added: “You are a role model to many young people in this school and your school and its head thinks you are terrific.”
A variety of other awards were handed to pupils excelling in academic subjects, sports and performing arts.
Mrs Randall said: “Our boys and girls inspire each other to chance their arm, to experiment, to take risks, nothing ventured, little gained. Nothing ventured? Not in this school.”
To demonstrate her view, she told the audience how she had written to multi-millionaire composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber quoting the compliments that the Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward, had paid to the stars of the college's Les Miserables production last year.
“To my delight, this resulted in London auditions for two members of the cast,” she said.
She also touched upon the college's success in exam results and sports last year.
“A Level results were the best ever and the A/B rate of 68.5% was exactly in line with our predictions.”
