Suffolk singing star's soap role

SHE has performed in front of the Queen, sung the national anthem at Twickenham and has been nominated for a classical Brit award.

But the highlight of Laura Wright's career so far - according to her grandmother - is a cameo role in her favourite soap.

The 17-year-old Framlingham College day pupil, who is a member of all-girl classical singing group All Angels, is to appear with the band in an episode of popular ITV soap Emmerdale on October 9 - and her grandmother could not be happier.

The quartet, who star as themselves, will sing at Kelly Windsor's (Adele Silva) and Jimmy King's (Nick Miles) wedding in a special episode. Filming has already taken place.

Laura, who is currently studying for her A2 exams, said: “It was so much fun going to the set.

“I do watch it but my gran absolutely adores it. She sounded really chuffed when I told her. She's looking forward to the episode.

“I spoke to lots of people. We tried to get a few photographs of the cast. Adele was so sweet and nice. We went and had dinner with them because it was quite a long day. It was so exciting.

“It was very down to earth.”

Laura is remaining tight-lipped on whether Kelly and Jimmy actually tie the knot but given their stormy relationship, viewers can be assured of many twists and turns.

The Emmerdale appearance is one of many events coming up for the girls over the next couple of months.

The platinum-selling group launched a search for a fifth angel last month in what was billed as Britain's first nationwide classical music talent hunt.

The lucky singer will appear with them at a London concert on November 28 and will then go into the studio to record a version of Ave Verum Corpus.

The deadline for entries has now been extended to October 8 to allow more budding singers to apply and Laura is hoping to take part in the judging.

“We've had a lot of interest. We're hoping to help decide when it gets down to the final,” she said.

The group are set to perform in front of the Queen again at this year's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London on November 10.

They also launch their new album, Into Paradise, on November 26 and will be busy promoting it with radio interviews, television appearances and live performances.

Laura said: “At the moment it's quite quiet because it's a busy time at school. We have just started our A2 courses so there's a lot of work to do and it's different from last year.

“We just finished recording our album a few weeks ago. From now until then we are just promoting it and trying to get ourselves on the radar.”

The singer is looking forward to taking to the road with the band in the run up to Christmas to promote the new album.

“Last year we didn't know each other but now it's so much fun,” she said.

For the chance of singing with All Angels, applicants aged between 16 and 60 are being asked to upload recordings of themselves at www.classicfm.com .

Five finalists will be announced on October 15 and the winner will be announced on November 5.
