All Angels will be appearing in BBC 1's 'Songs of Praise' from Hexham Abbey on Sunday 2nd December 2007. Here is an article from the Hexham Courant.
Aled sings Abbey's praises
CELEBRITY faces graced the aisles of Hexham Abbey this week, as the BBC swept into town to film three programmes for the popular Songs of Praise series.
Large wagons and equipment occupied much of the lower end of Beaumont Street, and shoppers were delighted to spot Welsh singing sensation Aled Jones in town, on his way to front the shows.
Aled, forever associated with the Walking in the Air hit from the children’s festive favourite The Snowman told the Rector of Hexham, Canon Graham Usher: “I am delighted to be here in such a lovely historic building and the people here have all been very friendly.”
The glamorous girls from the quartet All Angels also filled the rafters with song, as well as enthusing about the beautiful surroundings to Abbey staff.
Although filming went well during the week, there was a hiccup when the line of BBC trucks was joined by several fire engines.
The intense heat created by the BBC’s equipment triggered the Abbey’s fire alarms on Monday night, so the congregation was evacuated on to the Sele, before the all clear was given.
Mr Usher said: “I am delighted to have worked with the BBC and I am extremely proud of the Abbey’s musical team.
“We all had a thoroughly enjoyable few days and I hope the shows will promote Hexham and Tynedale as a great place for visitors.
“The timing of the first show at the start of Advent, when many people start thinking of next year’s holidays, could tempt some of them to come to the district.”
The Hexham edition of Songs of Praise will air on Sunday, December 2, with the other two going out in the New Year.
