Laura Wright started her career path at the tender age of 15 when she won the BBC Radio 2 Chorister of the Year. This has resulted in the regular demand for performances around the country, notably the soloist in John Rutter’s Requiem at St Paul’s Cathedral. Since this time, Laura has performed continuously at numerous prestigious venues, including the Wembley Arena, Twickenham, Old Trafford, O2 Arena, Royal Festival Hall and many others.
Laura joined the female quartet All Angels, who were quickly signed by Universal and launched in 2008. She has recorded 3 CDs with them, the first of which was named the fastest-selling classical album of all time!
In 2009 Laura won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music to study Opera, where she is now in her final year. Her recent performances include recordings for Decca, Universal Classics and Jazz, competing at the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary Award, the Chelsea Schubert Competition and charity concerts for ‘Venice in Peril’, which is the chosen charity for the Venice Marathon.
Laura's debut solo album 'The Last Rose', is due to be released by Decca Classics/ClassicFM on 25th July. It was recorded under the baton of Barry Wordsworth and the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra and Laura will be performing some of the repertoire from this latest recording at the Mendlesham Summer Festival.
Laura will be accompanied at the festival by Alisdair Kitchen FRCM, who studied at the Royal College of Music, where he was a scholarship holder, and attained the highest classification for his Bachelor's and Masters' degrees. A specialist in collaborative pianism, he was awarded every prize for vocal accompaniment at the RCM and currently holds the position of Anthony Saltmarsh Junior Fellow in accompaniment.
In addition to his work on the modern piano, Alisdair has received acclaim for his work on period instruments, and has worked with some of the leading authorities in this field, including fortepianists Malcolm Bilson and Robert Levin.
Alisdair recieves regular instruction in conducting from David Syrus, Head of Music at the Royal Opera House, and benefits from the advice of Sir Colin Davis. He is founder and musical director of Euphonia (President: Professor Lord Winston) an organisation committed to devising innovative concert and opera projects both live and in digital media.
The Edmund Octet. Formed in 2008, its membership was drawn from experienced male choristers and singers, each member having gained experience of various musical genres both in the UK and further afield. In 2009 Gill Garside was appointed as Musical Director and under her direction the group have developed a wide and varied repertoire from Mozart and Palestrina to Cole Porter and George Gershwin.
The Octet last shared the stage with Laura Wright in 2009 when they provided the Male Chorus Line backing for three pieces she performed at Norwich Cathedral.
This concert is part of the Mendlesham Summer Festival, taking place from 12th to 14th August. All proceeds will go to St Mary's Church Restoration Fund. See the Festival website for more details."
