Thaxted Parish Church is often referred to as the Cathedral of Essex because of its beauty, grandeur and impressive size. With its light and spacious interior, it has a fine acoustic, providing a wonderful setting for the annual Thaxted Festival.

Thanks for the information, it is certainly a concert I am interested in, but due to it being a Sunday, and also not near a train station it may have to be one that I will have to miss out on. I will look at it in more detail later.

Hi Everyone,

I have decided to attend this concert. I plan to stay in London and travel to and from Thaxted on the day via Stansted Airport which is quite close, there are buses but I will more than likely have to get a taxi after the concert. Trains from Stansed to London run until about 1.30am but it is unlikely to be late anyway.

I have been in touch with the Thaxted Festival organisers and they have sent me some information about this concert.

Tickets for all events go on general sale on 28th April. (they have already been on sale to members)

£24 for red seats and £18 yellow seats. For un reserved seating it is £14. Consessions £12.

You can download a booking form via the website and send it to them in advance, orders are processed in order of receipt.

Festival set to be biggest and best

THE countdown has begun - there is just over a week to go until the start of this year's Thaxted Festival.

The musical extravaganza promises to be even bigger than before with 17 concerts over four weekends that are guaranteed to tickle the tastebuds of all music lovers.

Kicking off with the internationally-renowned Choir of St John's College next Friday (June 20) and running until July 13, there are too many highlights to mention, says artistic director Gareth Stainer.

With old favourites such as Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth making a welcome return plus exciting newcomers, including young vocal quartet All Angels, Mr Stainer said: "It's going to be fantastic and already looks set to be a record-breaker!

"Dame Cleo and Sir John are expected to be the biggest sellers since we had Jamie Cullum in 2004, while All Angels have exceptionally beautiful voices and are truly magical."

Some 5,000 tickets are expected to be sold, with the programme aimed at attracting visitors across the spectrum.

The theme this year is kings, queens and emperors, with some carefully selected performances including Haydn's Emperor by the Endellion Quartet and Purcell's Fairy Queen brought to life by the Armonico Consort.

There will also be a number of exciting firsts, including The Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra, who Mr Stainer described as "very special young musicians", and Hertfordshire Chorus, who will be ending the festival in style.

"We have tried to put together as broad a programme as possible," Mr Stainer said. "Herts Chorus has lined up a splendid programme to take us out with a bang and we're really expecting the roof to come down."
