All Angels are going to bring new life to classical music … these girls are set to do for classical music what the Artic Monkeys have done for rock – Dickon Stainer, General Manager of Universal Classics and Jazz
The world’s first female classical super group, All Angels bring a fresh new sound and bright new look to classical crossover music. United by their love of music and by the freshness of youth, Melanie, Laura, Daisy and Charlotte represent a unique vocal quartet for the 21st Century.
The result of a nationwide search, the girls, aged sixteen and seventeen, all share a love classical music, however their background and interests could not be more different.
Charlotte Ritchie, a seasoned performer with the National Youth Music Theatre, recently appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and in 2004 played the lead in a short film, The Open Doors’ with Michael Sheen and Cheri Lunghi.
Melanie Nakhla, whose musical influences, which include everything from Elgar to Ella Fitzgerald, sums up the universal appeal of the group. One of five children from a very musical family, Melanie is fluent in French and Latin and currently training for her pilot’s licence.
Daisy Chute began touring with Les Miserables aged nine. At fifteen, she recorded an album of jazz standards, tracks from which were featured on Humphrey Lyttleton’s BBC Radio 2 show.
Laura Wright, the baby of the group, is regular soloist with the Suffolk Singers and in 2005, won BBC Radio 2’s Young Chorister of the Year Competition. Testament to her ability, Laura has sung as a guest soprano in John Rutter’s Requiem at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The repertoire on their debut album, ‘All Angels’ includes Schubert’s Ave Marie, Barber’s Agnus Dei and Delibes’ Flower Duet in addition to pop classics such as Robbie Williams’ Angels, Fleetwood Mac’s Songbird and Carole King’s You’ve Got A Friend.
