Schoolgirl clinches record deal
A WYCOMBE Abbey schoolgirl looks set to bring angel delight to the music scene as part of a £1million record deal.
Melanie Nakhla, 17, has just signed a five-album record deal as part of a new all-girl group All Angels.
The songstress auditioned as part of National Music Week beating thousands of other hopefuls to clinch her place in the four-girl group.
Universal Music have signed up the girls and will be spending £1million on marketing them to chart success.
The group will follow in the footsteps of classical-pop crossover outfits like Opera Babes and The Choirboys and will feature the choral voices of four talented schoolgirls including Melanie - who is head of Wycombe Abbey choir.
George Be-van, director of music at Wycombe Abbey, has heard the group perform and said: "They are extremely able; they had no accompaniment and no microphone yet performed fantastically."
He added: "Wycombe Abbey is extremely proud of Melanie and fully support this brilliant opportunity", and said All Angels is "undoubtedly a fantastic thing".
Melanie isn't just a singer - she also plays tennis and netball at county level - and even has ambitions to become a pilot.
But despite these sky-high aims and array of demands, Mr Bevan said Melanie is more than able to cope with juggling the challenges of schooling with being in a musical group.
Their style will blur the boundaries between classical, choral, operatic and popular music.
Melanie and the three other girls were selected to release their first single, a cover of Songbird which was originally written by Fleetwood Mac, as part of National Music Week - an initiative to encourage young people to get more involved in listening and playing music.
Songbird will be released at the beginning of National Music Week - October 16.
