Hello Everybody,
As I discovered the All Angels through a topic about them on Katherine's forum, I thought that I would return the favour by starting a topic about Katherine here. ;D
I am a huge fan of Katherine's, I love her albums and I just can't wait for the new album 'Rejoice' to be released next month.
It would be interesting to hear people's opinions on Katherine and her music.

Hi Dazza,
My introduction to Katherine came in 2004 when she was supporting Hayley during the Pure tour. Without doubt, she has a wonderful voice but it is slightly too operatic for my personal tastes. Nevertheless, I have her first three albums and once saw her in her own concert in London's Barbican theatre. I usually try to catch any television appearances but I am unlikely to buy any more of her albums (I am too busy listening to Hayley and All Angels for that!).
I met her briefly on two or three occasions and she is just as delightful in real life as she appears on screen.

Hi Roger, Thanks for your thoughts, very interesting. I owe a lot to Katherine, having only recently been introduced into classical music it was mainly thanks to her songs that I became interested, I couldn't stop playing them for weeks, although admittedly now I am listening to a lot more of Hayley and All Angels than Katherine. I am a massive fan though and would love to see her performing live as well as meet her. From what you say about her being too operatic, you may actually be interested in her next album 'Rejoice'. It is going to be different than what she has done before, as well as the usual arias there are going to be new songs that have been written for Katherine by writers such as Gary Barlow and Steve Mac. If you are interested, this is the video for her next single, also called 'Rejoice' and different to what she has done before - CLICK HERE Dazza

WoW I just watched her video for "L'Amore Sei Tu" and loved it! I like it even more than Whitney Houston's version! Well, I think she's correctly a classical crossover artist, I do believe she's a little more operatic than other classical crossover artists (sarah brightman i was thinking about) but not completely "opera". I think I will consider purchasing an album, although I'd really like to get the one with "L'Amore Sei Tu" :applaud: Thanks Dazza Meldy

Hi Roger,
I'm very happy that you liked the song. I think that it is stunning and I am very much looking forward to hearing what the rest of the new album will be like.
Meldy,
The album with 'L'Amore Sei Tu' on is called 'Living A Dream' and was Katherine's third album. If you like songs like that you might be interested in '(Quello Che Faro) Sara Per Te' which is Katherine's version of Bryan Adams '(Everything I Do) I Do It For You' which Bryan himself recorded the guitar solo on.
My favorite song by Katherine is 'Time To Say Goodbye', I love her version of it and think that she performs it better live than on the album. Other favorite songs of mine are 'Hymn to the Fallen', 'Nella Fantasia', 'Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep' and 'O Holy Night'.

Thanks for the link Dazza and you were right, I do love "Rejoice" :applaud: And I see her new album will be having "Kiss From A Rose", which, if I'm thinking of the same song they're thinking of, is an awesome song! Hmmm....I think I too will indeed be purchasing her new album Meldy

I think Katherine's voice is really lovely... possibly too lovely! *haha* You see, one of the "criteria" I have when selecting music is that it have some sort of "edge," something different and unusual and vibrant that forces me to pay attention. And I don't mean edgy as in rock music-- I love peaceful, relaxing music, of course, but not so much music that is so serene that it lulls me to sleep, and I generally find Katherine's songs to be in that category. So when I happen to find myself listening to her; say on her duet with Gardar Thor Cortes ("Where the Lost Ones Go") I really enjoy it... but I've never purchased an entire CD of hers.

Hi Chantelle,
I had never really thought about it but I think you have just summed up how I feel about Katherine. If I hear one or two tracks, I really like them but an entire album does tend to send me to sleep. I think it could be a lack of that *edge* which fails to maintain my interest for long.

Hi Chantelle,
What you say is very interesting, though I am going to have to disagree as in my opinion some of Katherine's music does have 'edge', although for me it applies more to her live performances rather than the studio albums, some of her performances really make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
However, although in general I disagree with you I can certainly see where you are coming from, and it is probably that reason why I have been listening more to Hayley and the All Angels since I have had their albums. I still think that Katherine is fantastic though.

Hi Everyone, You can now hear previews of all the tracks from the new album. www.7digital.com/artists/katherine-jenkins/rejoice/Quite a few of the songs are VERY different to what Katherine has done before. Most notably 'Rejoice', 'How Do You Leave The One You Love', 'Shout in Silence', 'Kiss From A Rose' and 'I will Pray For You'. I think this is the first time I have heard a drum beat in any of Katherine's songs. She definitely seems to be taking things in a new direction. Dazza

I think she deserves having more freedom now, and that's one of the good things about "classical crossover" it allows artists to give their audiences big surprises (like AA too!) Meldy
