All Angels in classical talent hunt



Girl-group All Angels are hunting for a new singer in what is being billed as Britain's first nationwide classical music talent search.

The platinum-selling group have performed for the Queen and been nominated for a Classical Brit since their debut album hit the top 10 of the pop charts last year.

Now they are searching for a singer to perform with them at a London concert and to record Ave Verum Corpus with the group in a studio.

All Angels - consisting of Melanie Nakhla, 18, Charlotte Ritchie, 18, Laura Wright, 17, and Daisy Chute, 18, said: "We feel so lucky to have been given the opportunities that we've had, that we want to help a budding singer in the same way."

A panel of top music experts, including Steve Abbott, who manages Hayley Westenra and Nicola Benedetti, and record label boss Dickon Stainer, will judge the final five.

While classical singers such as Paul Potts and G4 have had success after appearing on Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor, organisers say this is the first classical-only search.

The winner of the Classic FM and Universal Classics and Jazz search will be announced on November 12 and will appear at a concert with All Angels on November 28.

Applicants, aged between 16 and 60, are being asked to send recordings of themselves singing by post or to upload them online at www.classicfm.com.

Do You Sing Like An Angel?

The heavenly sound of All Angels, which spans classical, choral, opera and pop, has been an instant hit with popular and classical audiences all over the world.

Their self-titled debut album broke all previous UK records on it's release in November 2006 by becoming the fastest-selling debut album by a classical act in the history of the UK charts.

Now the girls are back in the studio putting together the finishing touches to their second album, due for release this November, and they have asked Classic FM to help them find a fifth 'Angel' to perform at a special All Angels concert to celebrate the album's release.

All Angels originally came together following an huge nationwide search of schools, choirs and music school and Melanie, Laura, Daisy and Charlotte are hoping to find an angelic girl (or boy!) with outstanding singing talent and a passion for music to join them.

It doesn't matter if you're 16 or 60 years old. What we're really looking for is someone with fresh talent, unique style and something special to bring to the group.

I wonder... do they mean the same "Ave Verum Corpus" that the girls recorded on their first album... or a different musical setting?

I'm planning on auditioning, and have been working on a song. In fact I've got a rehearsal tomorrow morning at 8am.

I've sent in my application. Probably won't hear anything from them coz it was only recorded on my little mp3 player in my bedroom, so it isn't brilliant. Good luck to everyone else who's applied! x
