One of the illustrious members of this forum or the HWI forum mentioned the other day (possibly at Canterbury) that All Angels featured in the betting for this year's Christmas number 1 single! Not everyone outside the UK will know it, but Christmas number 1 is a prestigious achievement in the UK for any recording artist. Well I've just checked the current betting odds at William Hill and here are the current top ten most fancied artists for Christmas Number One (with decimal betting odds - the lowest number is the favourite): Winner Of X Factor 1.33 All Angels 8.00 Take That 11.00 Cliff Richard & Brian May 13.00 Cliff Richard & Daniel O' Donnell 15.00 The Puppini Sisters 17.00 Lazy Town 21.00 James Morrison 21.00 Girls Aloud 21.00 Westlife 26.00 As we don't yet know if and what All Angels will be releasing for Christmas, I think this is remarkable - 2nd favourites! What is even more remarkable is that there is no history of Classical or Classical Crossover artists having successful singles, let alone a Christmas number 1. Even Katherine Jenkins could only reach number 76 with her last single, so a successful single like this by All Angels would be astonishing. We shall have to wait and see what happens... but if and when a Christmas single is announced for all Angels, we can move this thread to the appropriate singles board that will then be created. Cheers, Dave

...And according to UTV, (Ulster Television in Northern Ireland) there is to be a Christmas release... Please note, the release date is unconfirmed. If 'Angels' is used as the theme for this year's Poppy Appeal, the airplay should bring it to the attention of millions. Roger

Hi Roger, Thanks for all that information, when I started this thread I had no idea that the internet stories with lots more more details would appear within 12 hours! am I psychic, or what? ;D I guess that if we can get confirmation of the media stories from official All Angels, UCJ or British legion sources, we can amend the thread title and move it to a new board for the announced single. Yesterday at the BBC2 Choristers of The Year event in London, we were puzzled that All Angels sung "Angels" as their final number as it (a pop song) seemed slightly out of keeping with the tone of the competition - but now, I think we know why! If the BBC choose to include 'Angels' in their broadcast of the competition later this week, I think that will be further evidence to support the Christmas single (the BBC would want to help a charity single, I imagine). Hopefully, we can get some other confirmation before then. Cheers, Dave

Please find attached a "pirate" version of the expected Christmas number 1 single recorded at Westminster Abbey on Saturday (well we all think it deserves to be No.1). I am so sorry that the video of the four tracks that the Angels performed is not suitable for broadcast so I shall (hopefully) include the soundtrack of the two tracks that we we not previously heard. (Explanation in Chorister if the Year thread.) Here is Angel from All Angels, featuring 2005 Female Chorister of the Year, Laura Wright: www.osmosysoft.com/images/AngelWestminster.wavThis is taken from the soundtrack of the video. I shall try to compress later. You will need broadband, please be patient.

Wow! :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: Thanks for the clip, Drew. All Angels' harmonies are unbelievable, and it must have been a deeply moving experience listening to them in Westminster Abbey. I can't wait for their CD now, and I hope it flies up the charts! Good luck in the race for the Christmas No.1, ladies! ;D Best Wishes, Richard

Hello again everybody! Here is an article from the Suffolk Evening Star:- Suffolk girl's hope of Christmas No 101 November 2006 | 05:11 Laura after winning the Chorister of the Year title...and in her All Angels guise with group members Daisy, Melanie, and CharlotteSHE may only be 16 but schoolgirl Laura Wright is tipped for the top as the classical girl group she sings with are among the hot favourites for this years Christmas number one. The teenager is among four members of the new classical group All Angels and bookies have made the group the second favourite to hit the coveted festive top spot in the charts with their cover of the Robbie Williams ballad Angels. Currently a pupil at Framlingham College, Laura was chosen from thousands of hopefuls to be part of All Angels after the group was put together earlier this year. The current BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year, who lives in Framsden, is combining studying for her A-levels with being in the group, who release their debut album tomorrow. The cover of Angels is a charity track that will be released on December 18 and has been named the official single of the British Legion Poppy Appeal. Despite being one of Robbie Williams' most popular songs, Angels didn't make it to number one when he released it in 1997. Bookies William Hill have given odds of 7-1 for the group to get the Christmas number one, putting them second favourites behind the yet to be decided X-Factor winner. Sir Cliff Richard, who is releasing a cover of his classic track Move It, featuring Queen's Brian May, is also a favourite, along with Take That. Others tipped for the top include The Puppini sisters, Tony Christie's cover of the classic Beach Boys track God Only Knows, and a seasonally themed release from the Crazy Frog. William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: “Christmas Number One is a national institution with hundreds of thousands bet annually on the winner, all of which has been changed by the X Factor, which is in danger of becoming the Scrooge of Christmas Number One betting. We can only hope that groups such as Take That and All Angels can break the mould.” William Hill Christmas Number One Betting: (1-3) X Factor winner (7-1) All Angels (10-1) Take That (12-1) Cliff Richard and Brian May (16-1) Cliff Richard and Daniel O'Donnell (14-1) The Puppini Sisters

Not surprising, as you say, Dave, and the girls would have been aware that their market lies amongst more discerning customers..... Like us!

I really hope they are No.1!! I just got say how wonderful it is to find people who sing as well as these girls do, and sing such a great variety of music - and don't beats -well not from the clips I heard anyways. Which may sound silly coming from someone who is such a huge country fan, lol. And I'm sure that if they do, like Hayley, they will use them tastefully. But still, it's a huge plus in my books. And makes the music even that much more, angelic!!

We attended Sir Cliff Richard's inaugural concert at Wembley Arena last night. For a gentleman of 66 years he still had an excellent voice.
However, to bring us back on topic, Cliff introduced the audience to his Christmas single "21st Century Christmas".
Do not worry Angels, despite Sir Cliff having achieved the Christmas No. 1 twice in past years, we do not believe that it will work with this particular festive ditty.
Cliff has 20 concerts running up to Christmas and will probably reach an audience approaching 200,000. When All Angels perform at Twickenham (18/11) they have an immediate captive audience of 82,000 and perhaps a television audience of 82 million. If they were allowed to give them "Angels" that would give the British Legion a really good send off.

Hello Drew! Don't forget that All Angels will be appearing in the Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance next Saturday, 11th November 2006. As well as an audience of thousands in the Royal Albert Hall, millions will be watching on TV or listening on the radio, all over the world. ;D Best Wishes, Richard

Hi everyone, In view of the betting publicity surrounding "Angels", the British Legion connection (it's said to be their charity single) and now, HMV have listed it complete with catalogue number and release date (18 December 2006) I'll now rename this thread and move it to the CDs board. Let us hope this one isn't pulled as a CD single at the last minute, like Songbird was! But if the "All Angels" album is successful as I think it will be, I am sure that this single will actually go ahead. Cheers, Dave
